New to the Sault© offers an array of services to meet the needs of immigrants and settlers to Sault Ste. Marie and Algoma district.
Settlement & Relocation
As newcomers begin to settle and relocate to Sault Ste. Marie, NEW TO THE SAULT© is their first stop in obtaining information and support. Our initial step is to record information, including name, place of origin, reasons for relocation, etc… Next we determine what the newcomers needs are in order to begin providing any support during the initial settlement period.
Information & Referral Services
Newcomers can access information and receive referrals by visiting us at our location, by phoning us, e-mailing us or visiting our website. General information can be found related to:
- housing & rentals
- educational institutions
- job readiness professionals
- community events
- legal services
- government services
- English as a Second Language (ESL) training programs.
Mentorship Program
This program matches newcomers with local resident volunteers to help newcomers get oriented with their new surroundings, establish social networks and simply become a friend. By pairing up long term residents with newcomers based on age and interests, the mentorship program’s goal is to ease the stress of the settlement process and provide opportunties for newcomers to integrate into the community.

Translation
In partnership with Thunder Bay Multicultural Association (TBMA) NEW TO THE SAULT© co-delivers a translation service for newcomers. For a small fee, this accredited service is can be used to translate government documents, letters, licenses, etc. Payments and mailing is facilitated through NTTS to ensure the process is completed quickly and payments administered on time. LINC Home Study
Beginning in January in conjunction with TBMA, NEW TO THE SAULT© is offering a LINC Home Study Program for newcomers who qualify. This will be available to assess and place newcomers in the Home Study program to learn English on-line or by correspondence from your own home.This is ideal for newcomers who are working or have commitments and cannot attend local ESL classes.
