Marie and the world to act responsibly and use natural resources sustainably in order to preserve our ecological heritage for future generations.
Website Energy Use
Every time a visitor loads our website there is a good deal of energy involved. From the electricity needed to power the visitor's display and computer while they view our site, to the server that processes their requests and keeps the site available 24/7, we recognized a great opportunity to invest in our environment.
Offsetting Our Website's Environmental Impact
As our popular website grows it will inevitably use more and more energy. For this reason, we offset 100% of the total energy used to power the server that hosts our website on the Internet using certified renewable energy certificates called "Green Tags". These "Green Tags" represent investments in renewable energy infrastructure projects in North America. While the energy used initially by our web server is derived mainly from fossils and other non-renewables, Green Tags allow us to purchase electricity generated from wind and solar power plants in Canada and the USA and place it into the national grid, effectively offsetting our annual energy consumption.
Reversing Our Impact
But 100% offset of our web server energy use does not ensure that all the energy used to power our site is covered. Visitors must use electricity at their homes to view the site and their ISP must operate offices to provide the Internet connection. While we can't single-handedly compensate for all this electricity use, we're doing our part. In addition to the Green Tags purchased to offset this website's energy consumption, we also offset 100% of our site's carbon emissions by investing in sustainable tree planting initiatives around the world.
What Does All This Mean?
It means that you can come to our site as often as you like - watch videos and browse jobs and other information, and each time you do you will be helping to build renewable energy infrastructure in North America, and you'll also be helping to reforest the planet in a sustainable and beneficial way.
