Growth Still Needed to Create a Welcoming Community in SSM

In response to the unfortunate events which occurred on June 18, 2010 involving two Algoma University Students, Robert Totime and Travis Syrette, NEW TO THE SAULT wishes to express their support to both students, in hopes they receive the closure from the incident they are looking for.

SCCC - Call to Join the Board!

The Sault Community Information and Career Centre Board of Directors are inviting you to join our Executive Board. The Executive Board consists of business professionals such as you, who can assist us in directing, organizing, guiding and monitoring the overall operations of the SAULT COMMUNITY CAREER CENTRE. The Executive Board meets approximately 9 times per year and select committees may meet an additional two or three times per year.

SCCC's Welcoming Community Training Initiatives

It has been a busy month for the Sault Community Career Centre (SCCC) and a number of its staff members!

On May 31st 2010, the entire SCCC staff attended an Anti-Oppression and Anti-Racism Workshop, in collaboration with the initiative to create a Welcoming Community. Rebecca Lamoureux from Thunder Bay Multi-Cultural Association delivered the workshop and lead discussion on issues of discrimination and racism, in addition to strategies to affect change.

$3000 Raised from Passport to go to Local & International Causes

The Staff of NEW TO THE SAULT and the Sault Community Career Centre presented a cheque for $2,600 to the Red Cross of Sault Ste. Marie for Haitian Relief (top), the money was raised from the admission costs to the 4th Annual Passport to Unity held on March 21, 2010. $400 was also raised from sale of the "Taste of Unity" Cookbook and presented to the local Soup Kitchen (above). Thank you to our primary funder, EMPLOYMENT ONTARIO, along with our other financial supporters - Discover the Sault Web Portal, the Local Immigration Partnership and Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
